Das irische Wort Rún kann Geheimnis, Mysterium oder Liebe bedeuten, oder vielleicht eine schwer fassbare Kombination aus dreien, die die vielen Aspekte des Lebens widerspiegeln, die sich einer einfachen Erklärung entziehen. Im Ringen mit diesen kann es notwendig werden, sich vollständig zu engagieren, in die psychischen tiefen Gewässer zu springen, auf der Suche nach den Vibrationen und Gefühlen, die vorhanden sind. Hier kommt die Band Rún ins Spiel – und Rocket Recordings ist stolz darauf, ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum, das am 22. August erscheint, anzukündigen.
Als Vorschau auf ihr Album teilen die Band das Herzstück des Albums „Terror Moon“, auf dem ein donnernder perkussiver Hintergrund in Intensität durch kraftvolle Gesänge und mantrische Ululationen von Tara sowie einen heftigen Tumult aus geschichtetem Lärm und fieberhaften Angriffen ergänzt wird.
„„Terror Moon“ konfrontiert uns mit dem Bild des unblinkenden Auges eines toten Pferdes, das kontrastiert mit faulenden Orangen an den Zweigen der Plantagen in Jaffa, nachdem ihre palästinensischen Verwalter von israelischen Siedlern vertrieben wurden“, berichtet die Band. „Das Lied ist eine Reflexion über die unmenschliche Behandlung, die routinemäßig sowohl an menschlichen als auch an nicht-menschlichen Wesen inflicted wird.“
Das Debütalbum von Rún – das Ergebnis von drei kraftvollen Künstlern, die aufeinanderprallen und ebenso leidenschaftliche wie kompromisslose Ansätze zur Geltung bringen – ist nicht weniger als eine außergewöhnliche kollektive Katharsis. Noch mehr Beweise, dass wahrer Druck weit mehr als ein aufgedrehter Verstärker ist. Es ist eine emotional getriebene und reichhaltig atmosphärische Reise in die dunkelsten Winkel der weltlichen und überweltlichen Zustände, von einem spirituell unerschrockenen Ensemble, das experimentelle Methoden und improvisatorische Zustände alchemisiert, um beängstigende Höhen von klanglicher und psychischer Intensität zu erreichen.
The Irish word Rún can mean secret, mystery, or love, or perhaps some elusive combination of the three, reflecting the many aspects of life that defy easy explanation. In wrestling with these, it can become necessary to commit oneself entirely, to jump in at the psychic deep end in search of the vibrations and feelings at hand. This is where the band Rún come in – and today Rocket Recordings are proud to announce their self titled debut full-length arriving 22nd August.
As a preview of their album, the band share the album’s centrepiece „Terror Moon“ on which a thunderous percussive backdrop is matched in intensity by potent chants and mantric ululations from Tara as well a ferocious tumult of layered noise and fevered invective.
“Terror Moon confronts us with the image of the unblinking eye of a dead horse, juxtaposed with oranges rotting on the branches of the groves in Jaffa after their Palestinian custodians were evicted by Israeli settlers” relate the band, “The song is a reflection on the inhuman treatment routinely inflicted on both human and non-human entities.”
The debut album of Rún – the result of three powerful artists locking horns and bringing equally passionate and uncompromising approaches to bear – is no less than an extraordinary collective catharsis. Yet more evidence that true heaviness is about much more than a cranked amp. It’s an emotionally driven and richly atmospheric journey into the darkest recesses of states earthly and unearthly, from a spiritually intrepid outfit who alchemise experimental methods and improvisatory states to reach intimidating heights of sonic and psychic intensity.
