AntropomorphiA sind zurück! Sechs Jahre nach ihrem gefeierten Studioalbum „Merciless Savagery“ (2019) melden sich die niederländischen Death-Metal-Veteranen mit ihrem bisher brutalsten und düstersten Album zurück, das den treffenden Titel „Devoid of Light“ trägt.
Das Album erscheint am 16. Mai 2025 über das neue Label der Band, Testimony Records, auf CD, LP und in digitalen Formaten. Aufgenommen und gemischt wurde es von Marco Stubbe im Aftermath Studio / Kaatsheuvel (NL), begleitet von Daan Janzing im Pitchfork Studio / Tilburg (NL), und gemastert von Dan Swanö bei Unisound, Osterby (DE). Das Cover-Artwork wurde von Richard Schouten entworfen.
Als AntropomorphiA „Devoid of Light“ über einen Zeitraum von zweieinhalb Jahren schufen, zog sich der Aufnahmeprozess aus verschiedenen Gründen über einen viel längeren Prozess hin. Während der ganzen Zeit verlor die Band nie ihre Vision aus den Augen: eine große Vielfalt an harten musikalischen Texturen wie fanatische, weißäugige Aggression, misanthropische und nihilistische Texte und dunkle Emotionen wie Wut, Verzweiflung und Schmerz unter vielen anderen zu düsteren und beklemmenden Klanglandschaften zu verbinden.

Es beginnt mit einem gnadenlosen Strudel von Riffs, begleitet von heftigen Schreien, die den Ton angeben. ‚Cancerous Bane‘ bezieht sich auf den Weg der Ausbreitung von Schwarzsein, den Kampf gegen den Verrat des irdischen Fleisches und seinen vergeblichen Kampf gegen den zeitlosen Schlaf“, so Frontmann Ferry Damen.
AntropomorphiA wurden ursprünglich 1990 aus dem üblen Gestank des Todes in der niederländischen Stadt Tilburg hervorgebracht. Zu dieser Zeit waren sie Pioniere, was sie bald zu einem Eckpfeiler der brutalen Musikszene in den Niederlanden machte. Nach der Veröffentlichung ihres ersten offiziellen Demos „Bowel Mutilation“ (1992) erhielt die Band sofort einen Plattenvertrag und nahm nur wenige Monate später die EP „Necromantic Love Songs“ (1993) auf, die zum Kultklassiker wurde. Trotz gelegentlicher Pausen festigten AntropomorphiA ihren Status als Underground-Ikonen mit einer Reihe von gefeierten Veröffentlichungen. Auf das Debütalbum „Pure“ (1998) folgten die Alben „Evangelivm Nekromantia“ (2012), „Rites ov Perversion“ (2014), „Sermon ov Wrath“ (2017) und „Merciless Savagery“ (2019).
Ihre kompromisslose Herangehensweise und ihr ständig wachsender Strudel musikalischer Texturen, der einen wachsenden Zustrom von Black Metal-Elementen in die musikalische und visuelle DNA von AntropomorphiA beinhaltete, haben die Holländer Einladungen von den wichtigsten Festivals angenommen und sind unter anderem bei Brutal Assault, In Flammen Open Air, Summer Breeze, Motocultor, Netherlands Deathfest, Roadburn Festival und Eindhoven Metal Meeting aufgetreten.
Nun kehren AntropomorphiA mit „Devoid of Light“ zurück, um der Welt zu zeigen, dass sie immer noch hungrig danach sind, die Grenzen sowohl ihrer eigenen Band als auch der Death Metal Szene an neue Grenzen zu erweitern. Drehen Sie die Lautstärke auf 10 und lassen Sie das Album krachen!

AntropomorphiA are back! Six years after their acclaimed studio full-length „Merciless Savagery“ (2019), the Dutch death metal veterans return with their most brutal and dark record so far that is aptly entitled „Devoid of Light“.
The album will be released via the band’s new label home Testimony Records on May 16th 2025 on CD, LP and in digital formats. It was recorded and mixed by Marco Stubbe at Aftermath Studio / Kaatsheuvel (NL), accompanied by Daan Janzing at Pitchfork Studio / Tilburg (NL), and mastered by Dan Swanö at Unisound, Osterby (DE). The cover artwork was created by Richard Schouten.
When AntropomorphiA created „Devoid of Light“ over a period of two and a half years, the recording process was spread out through a much longer process due to a variety of reasons. During the whole time, the band never lost sight of their vision: to combine a wide variety of harsh musical textures including fanatical, white-eyed aggression, misanthropic and nihilistic lyrics, and dark emotions such as anger, despair, and pain among many others into dark and oppressive soundscapes.

It opens with a ruthless maelstrom of riffs accompanied by violent wailing screams to set the tone. ‘Cancerous Bane’ refers to the path of spreading blackness, the waging war against the betrayal of earthly flesh and its futile struggle against the timeless slumber“, says frontman Ferry Damen.
AntropomorphiA were originally spawned from the foul stench of death in the Dutch city of Tilburg in 1990. At the time, they were pioneers, which soon turned them into a corner stone of the brutal music scene in the Netherlands. After releasing their first official demo „Bowel Mutilation“ (1992) the band immediately captured a record deal and recorded the EP „Necromantic Love Songs“ (1993) only a few months later, which became a cult classic. Despite the occasional hiatus, AntropomorphiA continuously cemented their status as underground icons with a string of acclaimed releases. The debut full-length „Pure“ (1998) was followed by the albums „Evangelivm Nekromantia“ (2012), „Rites ov Perversion „(2014), „Sermon ov Wrath“ (2017), and „Merciless Savagery“ (2019).
Their uncompromising approach and ever expanding vortex of musical textures that included a growing influx of black metal elements into AntropomorphiA’s musical and visual DNA, the Dutch have accepted invitations by the most relevant festivals and performed at Brutal Assault, In Flammen Open Air, Summer Breeze, Motocultor, Netherlands Deathfest, Roadburn Festival, and Eindhoven Metal Meeting among many more live events.
