Creator-Destructor Records präsentiert „Initium Mors“, das monströse Debütalbum der Death Metal-Band Barbarous aus Oakland, Kalifornien.
Beeinflusst von Bands wie Cannibal Corpse, Skeletal Remains, Necrot und Gatecreeper, startete Barbarous fulminant, seit sie im April 2024 auf der Szene erschienen, und trat im vergangenen Sommer gemeinsam mit Bands wie Laceration und anderen im Bay Area auf. Im September veröffentlichte die Band ihr zwei Songs umfassendes „Coup De Grâce“-Demo, das große Anerkennung in der Underground-Szene fand, nur ein Vorgeschmack auf die lauernde Wildheit, die die Band vorzubereiten hatte.
Das gnadenlose Full-Length-Debüt von Barbarous, „Initium Mors“, erscheint als eine der verheerendsten Platten, die in diesem Jahr bisher veröffentlicht wurden. Die klassischen Death-Metal-Einflüsse der Band werden durch eine moderne Note aus unermüdlicher energetischer Zerstörung aus der Bay Area verkörpert, die sich in acht erdbebengroßen Tracks vereint, die alles im Hörbereich verwüsten. Initium Mors wurde im Februar/März 2025 von Cody Fuentes in den Rapture Studios (Spite, Wolf King, Lionheart) aufgenommen, gemischt und gemastert und mit erschreckender Kunst des Death-Metal-Luminary Dan Seagrave (Dismember, Hypocrisy, Morbid Angel) ergänzt.
Mit der ersten Vorschau auf Initium Mors, „Tools Of The Trade“, erklärt der Sänger Travis Laberge: „‘Tools Of The Trade’ ist ein Lied über einen bösen Henker, der seine Mission ausführt. Es ist ziemlich direkt. Ich wollte einfach ein Lied schreiben, das sowohl zu den Death Metal- als auch zu den mittelalterlichen Vibes der Band passt. Wir alle waren der Meinung, dass dies der Song ist, den wir als erste Single wählen sollten, da er die Band sowohl lyrisch als auch instrumental zusammenfasst. Ich bin ein großer Fan von Carcass, also ja, der Titel ist eine Hommage an sie.“

Creator-Destructor Records presents Initium Mors, the monstrous debut LP from Oakland, California death metal crew BARBAROUS.
Influenced by the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Skeletal Remains, Necrot, and Gatecreeper, BARBAROUS hit the ground running since coming onto the scene in April 2024, having played shows with performing live alongside the likes of Laceration and others across the Bay Area throughout last Summer. In September, the band released their two-song Coup De Grâce demo to widespread underground acclaim, just a foretaste of the lurking savagery the band was preparing to unload.
BARBAROUS’ merciless full-length debut, Initium Mors, arrives as one of the most devastating records to be delivered so far this year. The band’s classic death metal influences are exemplified though a modern edge of relentless Bay Area energetic destruction, coalescing into eight earthmoving tracks that devastate everything in earshot. Initium Mors was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Cody Fuentes in February/March 2025 at Rapture Studios (Spite, Wolf King, Lionheart), and completed with harrowing art by death metal luminary Dan Seagrave (Dismember, Hypocrisy, Morbid Angel).
With the first preview of Initium Mors, “Tools Of The Trade,” Vocalist Travis Laberge states, “‘Tools Of The Trade’ is a song about an evil executioner carrying out his mission. It’s pretty on the nose. I just wanted to write a song that fit both the death metal and medieval vibes of the band. We all felt this was the song to choose as the first single because it sums up the band lyrically and instrumentally as well. I’m a huge fan of Carcass so yeah, the title is a homage to them.“
