Physisch umhüllend, unheilvoll schön und aus dem animistischen Geist der natürlichen Welt schöpfend, kündigt Steve Von Till seine siebte Solo-LP „Alone In A World Of Wounds“ an, die am 16. Mai über Neurot Recordings erscheinen wird.
„Alone in a World of Wounds“, das eine andere Furche pflügt, ist ein Album mit mitreißender Gothic-angehauchter Americana, stolpernden Drones, wunderschönen, weltmüden Gesangsmelodien und sich langsam entfaltenden Cello-Arrangements. Ursprünglich inspiriert von der harmonischen Resonanz von Klavier und Synthesizern und seiner langjährigen Liebe zur Ambient-Musik, folgt „Alone in a World of Wounds“ auf „No Wilderness Deep Enough“ aus dem Jahr 2021 in nachdenklichem Ambiente. Er öffnete seine Stimme auf eine Weise, wie er es noch nie zuvor getan hatte, und die Entstehung des Albums erfolgte durch intuitive Improvisationen.
„Die komplexen Obertöne von Klavier und Synthesizern haben mich wirklich dazu inspiriert, mehr zu singen, die implizierten Harmonien zu suchen und einzigartige Ansätze innerhalb der Grenzen meiner Stimme zu finden“, sagt Von Till.
„Es ist die transzendente Natur der Musik, der kathartische Heilungsprozess, bei dem ich alles hinter mir lassen und eins mit dem Klang werden kann. Wenn du dir erlaubst, über das Gewöhnliche hinauszugehen, könntest du das Glück haben, einen Moment zu finden, in dem du in Übereinstimmung mit dem Fluss des Flusses des Universums erschaffst.“
Die Suche nach einer tieferen Verbindung, das Leben mit der Trauer über die Trennung von der natürlichen Welt und das Verlassen auf die Intuition auf Bauchebene, um dem ursprünglichen kreativen Zustand näher zu kommen, sind der Schlüssel zu Von Tills kreativem Prozess.
„Ich frage mich oft, wo der psychologische Bruch war, der die fatale Illusion verursachte, dass wir die Herrschaft über die natürliche Welt haben, wie sie darauf reduziert wird, nur zu unserem Vorteil zu existieren. Wann immer diese Trennung war – ich glaube, sie war die Wurzel der meisten unserer Probleme als Gesellschaft, in Beziehungen und sogar in uns selbst und unserem eigenen Verstand. Es kommt immer wieder auf die Tatsache zurück, dass wir eine bewusste Verschiebung hin zu dem Verständnis vollziehen müssen, dass wir alle Teil einer lebendigen, belebten Erde sind: und dass wir die Flüsse und die Berge und das Wetter als Teil von uns und uns als Teil der Welt betrachten müssen. Wir sind wilde Dinger, aber wir haben es vergessen. Ohne diesen Bewusstseinswandel sind wir am. Das ist das übergeordnete Thema. Und wenn ich auf mein Leben zurückblicke, wird es immer deutlicher und klarer, dass es immer das war, worüber ich gesungen habe.“
Aufgenommen größtenteils in seinem Scheunenstudio zu Hause in Idaho und abgemischt bei Circular Ruin in Brooklyn, NY, mit dem berühmten Produzenten Randall Dunn (Jóhann Jóhannsson, Sunn O))), Earth, Jim Jarmusch), enthält „Alone in a World of Wounds“ auch ein Cover-Artwork des in Spokane, WA, ansässigen alternativen Prozessfotografen Brian Deemy, der mit kolloidaler Nassplatten-„Tintype“-Ästhetik arbeitet. die Von Tills einzigartig antike und doch geerdete Ästhetik ergänzen und perfekt zu seinem Wunsch passen, die Verbindung zwischen dem Menschlichen und der mehr als menschlichen Welt neu zu erfinden.

Physically enveloping, forebodingly beautiful, and drawing on the animistic spirit of the natural world, Steve Von Till announces his seventh solo LP, Alone In A World Of Wounds, arriving on 16th May via Neurot Recordings.
Ploughing a different furrow, Alone in a World of Wounds is an album of sweeping gothic tinged Americana, tripped out drones, beautiful world weary vocal melodies and slowly unfurling cello arrangements. Initially inspired by the harmonic resonance of piano and synths and his long standing love of ambient music, Alone in a World of Wounds follows 2021’s No Wilderness Deep Enough in reflective ambience. Opening up his voice in ways he has never done before, the album’s genesis came via intuitive improvisations.
„The complex overtones of upright piano and synthesisers really inspired me to sing out more, to seek out the implied harmonies, and to find unique approaches within the limitations of my voice.“ says Von Till.
„It is the transcendent nature of music, the cathartic healing process where I can leave everything behind and become one with sound. When you allow yourself to go beyond the ordinary you might be fortunate enough to find a moment where you are creating in alignment with the flow of the river of the universe.“
The search for deeper connection, living with the sorrow of our separation from the natural world, and relying on gut level intuition to get closer to the primal creative state are all key to Von Till’s creative process.
„I often wonder where the psychological break was that caused the fatal delusion that we have dominion over the natural world, how it is reduced to existing solely for our benefit. Whenever that disconnect was – I believe it to be the root of most of our problems as a society, in relationships, and even within ourselves and our own minds. It always comes back to the fact that we must have a conscious shift back to understanding that we’re all part of a living animate earth: and that we need to think of the rivers and the mountains and the weather as part of us and us as part of the world. We are wild things but we’ve forgotten. Without this shift in consciousness we’re screwed. That’s the overarching theme. And when I look back on my life it’s becoming more explicit and more clear that this is always what I’ve been singing about“
Recorded mostly at his barn studio at home in Idaho and mixed at Circular Ruin in Brooklyn, NY, with storied producer Randall Dunn (Jóhann Jóhannsson, Sunn O))), Earth, Jim Jarmusch), Alone in a World of Wounds also boasts cover artwork from Spokane, WA based alternative process photographer Brian Deemy – who works with colloidal wet plate ‘tintype’ aesthetics, which compliment Von Till’s uniquely ancient yet grounded aesthetic, and one that perfectly matches his desire to reimagine the connection between the human and the more than human world.
