Hallo! Vielen Dank, dass ihr uns eingeladen habt. Wir sind Occult Witches aus Sherbrooke, QC. Wir sind eine 4-köpfige Band, Alec Marceau an der Gitarre, Eliot Sirois am Schlagzeug, Danick Cournoyer am Bass und Vanessa San Martin am Gesang. Wir sind nur hier, um Spaß zu haben und zu teilen, was wir gerne tun!
Wie seit ihr mit Black Throne Productions zusammengekommen?
Ryan und Paul von Black Throne waren nach Montreal gekommen, um Sons Of Arrakis zu sehen, und wir eröffneten für sie. Ich schätze, sie mochten, was sie sahen! Sie stellten sich uns nach der Show vor und sagten uns, dass sie interessiert seien. Wir unterhielten uns fast eine Stunde lang, und es war uns klar, dass diese Jungs wegen der Musik dabei waren und nicht nur wegen des Geldes. Wir sind super begeistert, bei ihnen unterschrieben zu haben, sie sind großartig, sie hören zu, sie geben gute Ratschläge und sie pushen uns!
Habt ihr Unterricht in euren Instrumenten genommen oder seid ihr eher Autodidakten?
Vanessa: Ich hatte vielleicht 2-3 Gesangsstunden, aber ich glaube, ich war Autodidakt. Ich mochte es schon immer, aber ich war anfangs sehr schüchtern, also würde ich es nicht wirklich vor jemandem machen!
Danick: Ich persönlich bin Autodidakt. Habe alles vom Rock’n’Roll gelernt!
Eliot: Ich habe ein paar Jahre lang Unterricht genommen, als ich anfing zu spielen. Im Laufe der Jahre habe ich von ein paar tollen Jungs gelernt, die ich kennengelernt habe. Ich spiele jetzt seit 10 Jahren in Bands!
Über Das Album
Euer aktuelles Album ist seit Juli erhältlich. Wie sind die Reaktionen bisher darauf? (Presse, Fans)
Die Reaktionen waren viel besser, als wir es uns hätten vorstellen können, wir haben so viele positive Kommentare, Bewertungen und dergleichen erhalten. Wir sind wirklich zufrieden damit.
Ihr habt eure Texte in Richtung Satan und Magie ausgerichtet. Worte haben Macht, sagt man. Habt ihr Angst, das er mal antwortet?
Nicht wirklich, nein.
Denkt ihr, das man, wenn man im Musikbusiness unterwegs ist, schon seine Seele verkauft hat und täglich mit dem Teufel tanzt?
Überhaupt nicht. Es ist eine persönliche Sache, du entscheidest, welchen Weg du nimmst und in der Musikindustrie zu sein, bedeutet nicht, dass es Satans Weg ist, den du nimmst.
Werdet ihr beim nächsten Album mit Deadline arbeiten oder lieber etwas mehr Luft nach oben lassen?
100% lassen wir uns beim nächsten Mal mehr Spielraum. Wir haben 4 Alben in vier Jahren veröffentlicht, wir werden uns Zeit für das nächste nehmen. Erwarte kein neues Album im Jahr 2025!
Ich liebe das Video zu “The Fool” aus verschiedensten Gründen. Erstens natürlich die mitreißende Stimme, etc. Es sieht aus als hättet ihr enorm Spaß gehabt. Sieht es nur so aus?
Marius Mongeau, der Filmemacher, ist ein Kumpel von uns, also hatten wir natürlich Spaß! Aber ich will ehrlich sein (Vanessa). Die Aufnahmen, die ich singe, brauchten eine Weile, um mich wohl zu fühlen, jeder, der zuschaute, versetzte mich in eine seltsame Lage haha. Aber für den Rest war es super, Marius ist sehr gut in dem was er tut!

Wohin würdet ihr gerne mal touren?
Europa
Du sagtest einmal in einem Interview, das du aus einem konservativen Elternhaus kommst. Wie stehen eure Familien zu euren Aktivitäten?
Vanessa: Nur meine. Aber sie unterstützen mich, egal was passiert.
Eliot: Papa und mein Onkel hören sich unsere Sachen schon seit Ewigkeiten an! Immer gute und unterstützende Kommentare von ihnen!
Wie habt ihr zu eurem Musikstil gefunden?
Es war anfangs nicht so einfach, all unsere Styles zusammenzustellen und uns darauf zu einigen, was wir wirklich machen wollten, aber wir haben es geschafft.

Can you please say a few words about yourselves?
Hey there! Thank you for having us. We’re Occult Witches from Sherbrooke, QC. We are a 4 piece band, Alec Marceau on guitar, Eliot Sirois on drums, Danick Cournoyer on bass and Vanessa San Martin on vocals. We’re just here to have fun and share what we love to do!
How did you come together with Black Throne Productions?
Ryan and Paul from Black Throne had come down to Montreal to see Sons Of Arrakis and we were opening for them. I guess they liked what they saw! They introduced themselves to us after the show and told us they were interested. We talked for almost an hour (drunk time), and it was clear to us that these guys were in it for the music and not just the money. We’re super stoked to have signed with them they’re great, they listen, they give good advice and they push us!
Did you take lessons in your instruments or are you rather self-taught?
Vanessa: I had maybe 2-3 singing lessons, but I guess I was self taught. Always liked it but I was very shy at first so I wouldn’t really do it in front of anyone!
Danick: Personally, I am self-taught. Learned it all from Rock’n’Roll!
Eliot: I did lessons for a couple years when I began to playing. Through the years I learned from a couple great guys I met. I have been playing in bands for 10 years now!
About the Album
Your latest album has been available since July. How have the reations been so far? (Press, fans)
The reactions have been much better than we could have imagined, we’ve received so much positive comments, reviews and such. We’re really happy with it.
You have focussed your lyrics on Satan and magic. Words have power, they say. Are you afraid that he might answer?
Not really, no.
Do you think that if you’re in the music business, you’ve already sold your soul and are dancing with the devil every day?
Not at all. It’s a personal thing, you choose what path you take and being in the music industry doesn’t mean it’s Satan’s path you’re taking.
Will you be working with Deadline on the next album or would you rather leave a little more room for manoeuvre?
Definetly, 100% rather leave a little more room for manoeuver. We released 4 albums in four years, we’re going to take our time for the next one. Don’t expect a new album in 2025!
I love the video for “The Fool” for various reasons. Firstly, of course, the captivation vocals, etc. It looks like you had a lof of fun. Is that just the way it looks?
Marius Mongeau the filmmaker is a buddy of ours, so of course we had fun! But I’ll be honest (Vanessa). The shots that I am singing took me a while to get comfortable, everyone watching put me in a weird place *haha*. But for the rest it was great, Marius is very good at what he does!

Where would you like to tour?
Europe.
You once said in an interview that you come from a conservative family. How do your families feel about your activities?
Vanessa: Only mine. But they support me no matter what.
Eliot: Dad and Uncle have been listening to our stuff for ages! Always good and supportive comments from them!
How did you find your musical style?
Putting all our styles together, agreeing on what we really wanted to do wasn’t so easy at frist but we got there.
