Ursprünglich 2009 gegründet, brach der erste Auftritt der Band nur wenige Schritte von Islands „pots-and-pans revolution“ entfernt los. Schnell erwarb sich Sleeping Giant einen Kultstatus für ihren intensiven Sound und ihre Bühnenaggressivität und wurde zu einer der faszinierendsten Untergrundbands Islands. Nach einem Jahrzehnt des Winterschlafs erwachte der Riese schließlich 2023, kehrte auf die Bühne bei den Festivals Reykjadoom und Norðanpaunk zurück und betrat das Studio, um ihre lang erwartete erste offizielle Veröffentlichung zu erstellen, die bald über Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records veröffentlicht wird.

To celebrate this partnership, the band unleashes their debut single “Conqueror”.
Emerging from the volcanic underground of Iceland, SLEEPING GIANT channel the raw spirit of Stoner and Doom Metal, enriched by elements of Thrash, Death and Sludge. Their sound is a fierce blend of massive grooves, razor-sharp drumming, and roaring vocals, a true tour-de-force of heavy metal energy.
Originally formed in 2009, the band’s debut performance erupted just steps away from Iceland’s “pots-and-pans revolution.” Quickly earning a cult reputation for their visceral sound and onstage ferocity, SLEEPING GIANT became one of Iceland’s most intriguing underground acts. After a decade of hibernation, the giant finally awoke in 2023, returning to the stage at Reykjadoom and Norðanpaunk festivals, and entering the studio to craft their long-awaited first official release, soon to be revealed through Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records.
