Die Hardcore-Newcomer aus Buffalo, NY, Spaced, sind dem Pure Noise Records-Katalog beigetreten und haben die erste Veröffentlichung aus der neuen Zusammenarbeit angekündigt: die „No Escape“ EP.
Die EP, die am 17. Oktober erscheint, enthält fünf Songs, die mit treibenden Riffs und psychologischer Aggression gefüllt sind und eine perfekte Einführung in Spaced’s einzigartige Marke des selbsternannten „far out hardcore“ bieten.
Die Gruppe hat auch die Lead-Single ‚Cause and Effect‘ aus „No Escape“ sowie das dazugehörige Musikvideo veröffentlicht, in dem der Komiker Ian Fidance mitspielt. Der Track schleudert den Hörer von einem hämmernden Galopp in einen klimaktischen Breakdown mit ausgeblendeten Gitarren und dem charismatischen Gebrüll der Sängerin Lexi Reyngoudt. ‚Dieses Lied drückt die Wut und Frustration aus, die wir über unsere derzeitige Gesellschaft und die Normen empfinden, die uns auferlegt werden‘, erklärt Reyngoudt. ‚Uns wird gesagt, wir sollen ruhig sein und einfach gehorchen, aber wir sollten wirklich zurückkämpfen und unsere Meinung sagen. ‚Cause and Effect‘ ist eine Hymne für die Zeiten: ‚Ihr habt uns zu weit gedrängt; jetzt ist es Zeit, dass wir zurückschlagen.‘
Spaced – Reyngoudt, die Gitarristen Joe Morganti und Donny Arthur, Bassist John Vaughan und Schlagzeuger Dan McCormick – starteten 2021 mit einem ausgereiften Sound, den sie in den vergangenen Jahren unermüdlich verfeinert hatten. Jetzt macht „No Escap“e diese Entwicklung perfekt und treibt sowohl die Härte als auch ihre einzigartigen, effektreichen Texturen noch weiter voran als je zuvor.
Aufgenommen von Produzent Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Terror, Age of Apocalypse), fängt die EP die freizügige Klanghaltung der Band ein, aber auch den trotzigen Kern, der im Mittelpunkt von Reyngoudts Texten steht. „[No Escape handelt] davon, sich vom Alltag erstickt zu fühlen. Wir schuften und arbeiten zu Hause und dann schuften wir weiter unterwegs. All das passiert, während die Welt sich wie eine bedrohliche Gewitterwolke über unseren Köpfen anfühlt. Ich habe die Texte dieses Albums geschrieben, um meine aktuellen Gefühle über das, was gerade passiert, auszudrücken. Aber obwohl ich mich wegen solcher Dinge niedergeschlagen fühle, bin ich dennoch glücklich, von der Hardcore-Community und Menschen umgeben zu sein, die sich mit mir gemeinsam zu Wort melden.“
Buffalo, NY hardcore upstarts, SPACED, have joined the Pure Noise Records roster and today they’ve announced the first release from the new team-up: the No Escape EP. Due out October 17th, the EP’s five songs are packed with stomping riffs and psych-tinged aggression that offer a perfect introduction to SPACED’s unique brand of self-proclaimed „far out hardcore.“
The group have also shared No Escape’s lead single „Cause and Effect“ and its accompanying music video, starring comedian Ian Fidance. The track hurls the listener from a pounding gallop into a climactic breakdown of phased-out guitars and vocalist Lexi Reyngoudt’s charismatic roar. „This song expresses the anger and frustration we feel about our current society and the norms that are placed upon us,“ explains Reyngoudt. „We’re told to be quiet and just obey but we really should be fighting back and speaking our minds. ‚Cause and Effect‘ is an anthem for the times: ‚You pushed us too far; now it’s time we push back.'“

—Reyngoudt, guitarists Joe Morganti and Donny Arthur, bassist John Vaughan and drummer Dan McCormick—came out swinging in 2021 with a fully-realized sound that they’ve relentlessly honed in the ensuring years. Now No Escape makes good on that evolution, pushing both the heaviness and their unique effects-drenched textures even further than ever before. Recorded by producer Jay Zubricky (Every Time I Die, Terror, Age of Apocalypse) the EP captures the band’s freewheeling sonic attitude but also the defiant core at the center of Reyngoudt’s lyrics. „[No Escape is] about feeling suffocated by our everyday lives. We grind and work our jobs while we’re home, and then grind some more out on the road. All of this is happening while the world feels like a daunting thundercloud over our heads. I wrote the lyrics of this album as an outlet to express my current feelings about what is going on. However, while I feel down about things like that, I still feel lucky to be surrounded by the hardcore community and people who will speak up with me.”
