Die legendäre finnische Metalband Soulgrind, die 1992 gegründet wurde, wird ihr zehntes Album „Ad Pulchram Mortem“ über Inverse Records veröffentlichen. Das Veröffentlichungsdatum wird später bekannt gegeben.

Gitarrist Lord Heikkinen kommentiert: „Es ist schon 15 Jahre her, seit Soulgrind das letzte Mal etwas veröffentlicht hat. Die Zeit ist wirklich wie im Flug vergangen. Azhemin und ich haben gelegentlich an kleinen Projekten herumgebastelt, aber aus dem einen oder anderen Grund kam es immer zu einem Stillstand. Tanya Lilith lebte in Österreich, was den Prozess ebenfalls verlangsamte. Immer wenn Tanya Finnland besuchte, nahmen wir ein kleines Demo auf. Im Jahr 2024 wuchs jedoch unsere Begeisterung und es entstanden schnell neue Songs. Außerdem hatten wir eine Menge Material in den Schubladen liegen. Manchmal hatte man sogar das Gefühl, dass es vielleicht zu viel war. Bei jeder Aufnahmesession gab es etwas Neues und Aufregendes zu entdecken, und gleichzeitig entstanden noch großartigere Dinge. Mit anderen Worten, wir hatten nie einen Mangel an Material, ganz im Gegenteil. Das Einzige, was knapp war, war die Zeit. Aber jetzt hat Soulgrind wieder seinen Platz auf der Zeitachse gefunden.

Für das Album „Ad Pulchram Mortem“ haben wir 12 Tracks aufgenommen. Davon haben wir „Jylhä metsämies“ als Single ausgewählt. „Jylhä metsämies“ handelt von einem Mann, der seinen eigenen Weg geht und sich vor nichts beugt, weder vor etwas Höherem noch vor etwas Niedrigerem, noch vor irgendetwas auf dieser Erde. Der Text spiegelt Soulgrind sehr gut wider. Die Musik ist sehr eigenständig und kopiert niemanden und nichts. Das war schon immer so und wird auch so bleiben. Die Band klingt wie sie selbst. Musikalisch deckt „Jylhä metsämies“ die Reise der Band von Whitsongs über Kalma/Pakana bis hin zu The Tuoni Pathway ab und bringt gleichzeitig viel Neues mit. Alles in allem ist es unserer Meinung nach eine brillante Art, ein neues Kapitel aufzuschlagen. Das Album selbst enthält noch viel mehr, darunter sogar einige überraschende Stücke.

Im Laufe des restlichen Jahres haben wir das Ziel, das Album „Ad Pulchram Mortem“ fertigzustellen und zu veröffentlichen, und natürlich ist der Wunsch, live zu spielen, groß. Das Paket muss noch perfektioniert werden, und hoffentlich werden wir im Jahr 2026 auf die Bühnen kommen. Die ursprüngliche Paganheit ist zurück.„

Soulgrind ist eine finnische Metalband, die 1992 gegründet wurde und bekannt ist für ihre Mischung aus Gothic Metal, Thrash und Black Metal mit einer dunklen, melodischen Atmosphäre. Die Band wurde von Lord Heikkinen gegründet, der während ihrer Karriere konstant Gitarren und Programmierungen beigesteuert hat.

Die Musik von Soulgrind beschäftigt sich häufig mit Themen, die mit den dunkleren Aspekten der finnischen Geschichte und Psyche zu tun haben. Aber es gab auch immer die andere Seite dieser Aspekte. Der klassische Krieg zwischen Liebe und Hass. Der Sound hat sich im Laufe der Zeit weiterentwickelt, aber Soulgrind hat seine Kernidentität bewahrt, die im Metal mit einer dunklen, atmosphärischen Note verwurzelt ist, sich einer strengen Genre-Kategorisierung widersetzt und sich frei musikalisch weiterentwickelt. Die Freiheit des Metal war schon immer das Thema. Und so soll es auch bleiben.

Soulgrind wird für ihren intelligenten und einzigartigen Ansatz im Metal anerkannt, indem sie melodische und dunkle Elemente miteinander verbinden, um einen unverwechselbaren Sound in der finnischen Metalszene zu kreieren. Ihre langjährige Präsenz seit den frühen 90er Jahren macht sie zu einem bedeutenden Akteur in den Genres Gothic und Black Metal in Finnland.

The legendary Finnish metal band Soulgrind, founded in 1992, is set to release its tenth album, Ad Pulchram Mortem, via Inverse Records. The release date will be announced later.

Guitarist Lord Heikkinen comments: „It’s already been 15 years since the last Soulgrind release. Time has truly flown by. Occasionally, Azhemin and I would tinker with something small, but it always came to a halt for one reason or another. Tanya Lilith was living in Austria, which also slowed down the process. Whenever Tanya visited Finland, we’d demo a little something. However, during 2024, our enthusiasm grew, and songs began to emerge rapidly. There was also a lot of material stored away in the drawers. At times, it felt like maybe even too much. For every recording session, there was something new and exciting to discover, and at the same time, even grander things would be created. In other words, we’ve never had a shortage of material, quite the opposite. The only thing in short supply has been time. But now, Soulgrind has been given its place on the timeline once again.

For the album Ad Pulchram Mortem, we made 12 tracks. Of these, we chose „Jylhä metsämies“ as the single. „Jylhä metsämies“ is the story of a man who walks his own path, bowing to nothing not above, not below, not on this earth. The lyrics reflect Soulgrind very well itself. The music is very self-directed and copies no one or anything. This has always been the case and will remain so. The band sounds like itself. Musically, „Jylhä metsämies“ covers the band’s journey from Whitsongs, through Kalma/Pakana, to The Tuoni Pathway, while also bringing in much that is new. All in all, in our opinion, it’s a brilliant way to open a new chapter. The album itself contains much more, with even some surprising material.

During the remainder of the year, we aim to finish up the Ad Pulchram Mortem album and release it, and of course, the desire to play live is strong. The package still needs some perfecting, and hopefully, we’ll get onto the stages during 2026. The Original Paganhood is back.“

Soulgrind is a Finnish metal band formed in 1992, known primarily for their blend of gothic metal, thrash  and black metal with a dark, melodic atmosphere. The band was founded by Lord Heikkinen, who has consistently contributed guitars and programming throughout their career. 

Soulgrind’s music often explores themes related to the darker aspects of Finnish history and psyche, combining passion, war, and the „dark side of mind“ into their lyrical content, reflecting a deep connection to Finland’s cultural and historical roots. But there has always been the bride side for the aspects as well. Classic war of love and hate.The  sound has evolved over the time, but Soulgrind has maintained a core identity rooted in metal with a dark, atmospheric edge, resisting strict genre categorization and embracing musical development freely. Freedom of metal has always been the theme. And so it shall be.

Soulgrind is recognized for their intelligent and unique approach to metal, merging melodic and dark elements to create a distinctive sound within the Finnish metal scene. Their long-standing presence since the early 90s marks them as a significant act in the gothic and black metal genres in Finland.
