Wie habt ihr euch kennengelernt?
Einige von uns kannten sich auf persönlicher Ebene, andere nur durch Online-Kontakt. Als es an der Zeit war Evilon neu zusammenzustellen, wurden diese Kontakte genutzt, und der Prozess ging recht schnell.
Wie kamt ihr dazu Melodic-Folk-Deathmetal zu spielen?
Aus Liebe zum Death Metal als auch zur Folkmusik -.insbesondere der nordischen Folkmusik. Die Kombination der brutalen Musik und des rauen Gesangs mit schönen und bezaubernden Melodien ist ein perfektes musikalisches Erlebnis.
Was sind eure musikalischen Vorbilder?
Ich habe keine konkreten Vorbilder, aber als ich einmal anfing, Gitarre zu spielen, habe ich mich von Gitarristen wie Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen und Steve Morse inspirieren lassen. Was das Komponieren epischer Musik angeht, bewundere ich zum Beispiel Jari Mäenpää – Wintersun – und Tuomas Holopainen von Nightwish.
Über das Album
Euer neues Album „Ginnungagap“ bedeutet…?
Es bedeutet der magische Abgrund. Nach der nordischen Mythologie ist es der Abgrund, aus dem alles Leben geboren wurde.
Seid ihr mit euren Werk, das brandneu ist, auch zufrieden? Wie verlief der Prozess für die Scheibe?
Ich bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Endprodukt! Wir haben diesmal mit ganz neuen Leuten gearbeitet, die Aufnahmen und die Produktion haben wir selbst gemacht, aber für das Abmischen haben wir Studio Fluff und für das Mastering haben wir Oslo Mastering engagiert und ich muss sagen, dass dies das bestklingenste Album von Evilon überhaupt ist.
Nach einigen Umbesetzungen in der Vergangenheit – seht ihr euch jetzt als gemeinsame Band?
Wir sind im Moment eine Band, ja. Alle Mitglieder sind Vollmitglieder in der Band.

Wie geht’s jetzt weiter?
Eine Menge Dinge, viel Arbeit mit PR, Interviews, Kontakte knüpfen und es gibt auch Pläne für eine Tournee in diesem Jahr. Außerdem schreibe ich wieder neue Musik, das ist ein wesentlicher Teil von dem, was ich bin.
Steht eine Release-Tour an?
Ja, auf jeden Fall. Mehr können wir im Moment noch nicht sagen, aber wir hoffen auf eine Tournee in Europa.
Der Pagan-/Folkmetal hat immer noch viele Anhänger- merkt ihr das auch?
Ja, wir bekommen eine Menge Feedback von unseren Fans und das ist großartig!
Ich verfolge auch Social-Media-Seiten über Folk-Metal und es gibt viele Leute, die diese Musikrichtung mögen.

Can you briefly introduce yourselves?
Kenneth: Guitar, backing vocals, composer.

How did you get to know each other?
Some of us new each other on a personal level, some only by online contact. When it was time to put together a new Evilon, those contacts were taken and the process went rather fast.
How did you come to play melodic folk death metal?
For the love of both death metal and folk music and particularly nordic folk music. The combination of the brutal music and harsh vocals with beautiful and enchanting melodies makes up for a perfect musical experience.
What are your musical role models?
I have no specific role models but when I started playing guitar once upon a time I took inspiration from guitarists like Jimi Hendrix, Yngwie J. Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen and Steve Morse. Concerning composing epic music I admire for example Jari Mäenpää – Wintersun and Tuomas Holopainen – Nightwish.
About the Album
Your new album “Ginnungagap” means…?
It means the magic abyss. According to Norse Mythology, the abyss from where all life was born.
Are you satisfied with your work, which is brand new? How did the process for the album go?
I am very satisfied with the final product! We worked with totally new people this time, the recordings and producing we did all by ourselves, but for the mixing we hired Studio Fluff and for the mastering we hired Oslo Mastering and I must say that this is the best sounding album from Evilon ever.
After a few line-up changes in the past – do you now see yourselves as a band together?
We are a band right now yes. All the members are full members in the band.
Out of Curiosity
What happens now?
A lot of things, much work with PR, doing interviews, connecting people, contacting festivals, venues and there ́s also plans for a tour this year. Besides from that I ́m writing new music again, that is an essential part of who I am.
Are you planning a release tour?
Yes we are. We cannot say anything more about it at the moment, but we are hoping for a tour in Europe.
Pagan/folk metal still has a lot of fans – do you notice that?
Yes, we get a lot of feedback from our fans and that is awesome! I ́m also following social media sites about folk metal and there ́s many people liking this music genre.
When can we hear you in Germany?
We are playing at Mittsommernächte Bärenstein on June 21st
