Mad Max arbeiten an einem neuen Album

Die Münsteraner Hardrock-Legenden Mad Max sind derzeit in vollem Gange, denn sie arbeiten gleich an zwei besonderen Veröffentlichungen.

Im Mittelpunkt steht das 45-jährige Bestehen der 1981 in Mad Max umbenannten Band, die sich im Jahr zuvor als Coverband gegründet hatte, bevor sie schnell zu eigenem Material überging. Dieses wurde 1981 in Form der Vier-Track-EP „In Concert“ und des Debütalbums „Heavy Metal“ veröffentlicht, das 1982 folgte. Damit wurden Mad Max zu Vorreitern einer neuen deutschen Hardrock- und Metalszene, die bis dahin nur THE SCORPIONS und ACCEPT kannte. Mad Max war zu dieser Zeit stark von der NWoBHM-Bewegung und Bands wie JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON und IRON MAIDEN beeinflusst. Beide Aufnahmen wurden nun gebündelt und von Rolf Munkes (u.a. CREMATORY) neu gemastert als Neuauflage auf CD, LP und digital.

„Als ich Mad Max 1981 in meiner Heimatstadt Münster gründete, hätte ich mir nie träumen lassen, dass ich 2026 das 45-jährige Bestehen der Band feiern würde. Darauf bin ich sehr stolz und dankbar“, freut sich Gründungsmitglied und Hauptkomponist Jürgen Breforth und fügt hinzu: „Natürlich möchte ich das Jubiläum gemeinsam mit den Mad Max-Fans feiern, denn diese Fans haben uns 45 Jahre lang treu unterstützt und wir konnten Konzerte auf der ganzen Welt spielen. Die Feierlichkeiten werden Ende des Jahres mit der Wiederveröffentlichung der Songs beginnen, mit denen alles begann. Es wird nicht nur das erste Album unter dem Titel „Heavy Metal“ veröffentlicht, sondern auch die EP „In Concert“ mit den ersten 4 Songs, die wir als Band komponiert und veröffentlicht haben. Außerdem wird es unveröffentlichtes Fotomaterial, eine ausführliche Geschichte, Linernotes und viele weitere Überraschungen geben.“

Im Jubiläumsjahr 2026 wird Mad Max ein brandneues Studioalbum mit allerlei außergewöhnlichen Tracks veröffentlichen, die in den viereinhalb Jahrzehnten etwas in den Hintergrund gerückt sind und denen Jürgen Breforth nun mit seiner aktuellen Besetzung ein zweites, neues Leben geben will. Der Titel des monumentalen Werkes lautet „Stories Of Destiny“.

„Für dieses Album haben wir uns etwas ganz Besonderes für die Fans ausgedacht. Natürlich will ich noch nicht zu viel verraten, aber mit „Weapons Of Love“ und „Until The End Of Time“ wird es zwei bisher unveröffentlichte Mad Max-Songs von 1991 und ein spektakuläres Duett geben, mit dem niemand gerechnet hat. Aber das ist noch nicht alles: Ich hatte die große Ehre, mit vielen Stars aus dem Rockbusiness Songs zu komponieren, von denen es auf „Stories Of Destiny“ erstmals Mad Max-Versionen geben wird. Ihr werdet überrascht sein, wer alles dabei sein wird“, verrät der Gitarrenvirtuose. Die Aufnahmen für dieses Album haben gerade begonnen; wieder unter der Leitung von Rolf Munkes in seinen „Empire Studios“ in Bensheim, wo auch das Vorgängeralbum „Wings Of Time“ aufgenommen wurde.“

The German based hard rock legends MAD MAX from Münster are currently in full swing, as they are working on two special releases at the same time. The focus is on the 45th anniversary of the band, which was renamed MAD MAX in 1981 and formed the previous year as a cover band before quickly switching to their own material. This was released in 1981 in the form of the four-track EP “In Concert” and the debut album “Heavy Metal”, which followed in 1982. This made MAD MAX pioneers of a new German hard rock and metal scene, which until then had only known THE SCORPIONS and ACCEPT. At that time, MAD MAX was strongly influenced by the NWoBHM movement and bands such as JUDAS PRIEST, SAXON and IRON MAIDEN. Both recordings have now been bundled together and re-mastered by Rolf Munkes (CREMATORY and others) as a new edition on CD, LP and digital.

„When I founded Mad Max in 1981 in my home town of Münster, I would never have dreamed that I would be celebrating the band’s 45th anniversary in 2026. I’m very proud and grateful for that”, says founding member and main composer Jürgen Breforth happily, adding: ”Of course I want to celebrate the anniversary together with the Mad Max fans, because these fans have loyally supported us for 45 years and we’ve been able to play concerts all over the world. The celebrations will begin at the end of the year with the re-release of the songs that started it all. Not only will the first album be released under the title “Heavy Metal”, but also the EP “In Concert” with the first 4 songs that we composed and released as a band. There will also be unreleased photo material, a detailed history, liner notes and many other surprises.”

In the anniversary year 2026, MAD MAX will release a brand new studio album with all kinds of extraordinary tracks that have been somewhat sidelined over the four and a half decades and which Jürgen Breforth now wants to give a second, new life with his current line-up. The title of the monumental work is “Stories Of Destiny”. “For this album, we have come up with something very special for the fans. Of course, I don’t want to give too much away yet, but with “Weapons Of Love” and “Until The End Of Time”, there will be two previously unreleased Mad Max songs from 1991 and a spectacular duet that nobody expected. But that’s not all: I had the great honor of composing songs together with many stars from the rock business, of which there will be Mad Max versions of these tracks on “Stories Of Destiny” for the first time. You’ll be surprised who will be involved,” reveals the guitar virtuoso. The recordings for this album have just started; once again under the direction of Rolf Munkes in his “Empire Studios” in Bensheim, where the previous album “Wings Of Time” was recorded.
