Wie oft musstet ihr euch schon Witze über Tee anhören? Und würdest du im Notfall mit Luzifer etwas trinken?
Überraschenderweise nicht zu viele! Ich würde auf jeden Fall gerne mehr hören. Ich trinke jeden Tag Tee mit Luzifer.
Es wäre schön, wenn du uns ein wenig über dich erzählen könntest. In Deutschland seid ihr noch nicht ganz (leider) so bekannt.
A: Ich bin Crucifix, ich singe in der kanadischen Death-Grind-Band Satanic Tea Co. Wir machen auch Tee aus Menschen.
Wer / Was hat dich zur Musik gebracht?
Ich würde sagen, meine ältere Schwester. Als ich aufwuchs, konnte ich nur christliche Musik hören, meine Schwester legte das Glaubensbekenntnis ab, und das war meine Einführung in alles, was schwerer war als Anbetungsmusik. Ich habe mich wirklich darauf eingelassen, schließlich Bands wie Norma Jean, As I Lay Dying usw. gefunden, dann das weltliche Zeug; Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus usw.
Und wie habt ihr euch für die jeweiligen Instrumente entschieden?
Als ich 11-14 Jahre alt war, habe ich Bass in einer Band gespielt, aber irgendwann hat unser Sänger aufgehört, also beschloss ich, es zu versuchen. Jetzt möchte ich wirklich versuchen, eines Tages wieder Bass in einer Band zu spielen.
Über das Album “A Celestial Beating”
Euer neues Album erscheint am 27.09.23. Wie aufgeregt seid ihr?
Ich bin extrem aufgeregt, es ist unsere erste Veröffentlichung als Sammlung von Songs. Es macht Spaß, Singles zu veröffentlichen, aber zum ersten Mal ein Album zur Verfügung zu haben, ist etwas, auf das ich mich von Anfang an gefreut habe.
“Dissection of Christ” liefert eine blutige Alternative zu einer biblischen Erzählung. Wie denkst du über die Institution der Kirche? (Ja, ich weiß, man diskutiert nicht über Religion und Politik – aber man sollte es)
Ich finde, sie sollten Steuern zahlen.
Wir sagen: “Karma kümmert sich darum.” Glaubst du, dass Karma zuschlägt, oder ist es besser, proaktiv zu sein?
Ich denke, Karma leistet oft gute Arbeit, wenn es darum geht, sich darum zu kümmern, aber ich bin auch für proaktive Lösungen.
Woher nimmst du deine Ideen für die Songs und wer übernimmt die Organisation?
Ein Großteil der Inspiration für “A Celestial Beating” kam aus meiner sehr religiösen Erziehung und Umgebung.
Wohin steuert Satanic Tea Co? Was sind eure Pläne für die nahe Zukunft?
Wir arbeiten daran, unser Debütalbum zu schreiben und anfangen, Shows in den USA zu spielen, das ist im Moment unser Hauptaugenmerk. Und natürlich so viele Körperteile wie möglich zu ernten, um sie in Tee ziehen zu lassen.
Fragen aus Neugier
Ihr konntet bereits mit einigen Bands zusammenarbeiten. Welche haben euch am meisten beeindruckt und warum?
Kittie und Cryptopsy waren einige meiner Favoriten, mit denen ich gearbeitet habe. Sie waren so locker und es hat Spaß gemacht, die Mischungen damit zu erarbeiten.
Und mit wem würdest du gerne zusammenarbeiten, hast es aber noch nicht getan?
Cannibal Corpse und Dying Fetus stehen wahrscheinlich ganz oben auf meiner Bucket List.
Was sagen eure Freunde / Familie über die Aktivitäten? Werdet ihr unterstützt oder schließt ihr euch der Herde der “schwarzen Familienschafe” an?
Ich würde definitiv sagen, dass ich das schwarze Schaf meiner Familie bin, aber ich bekomme viel Unterstützung von meinen Freunden und meiner Familie.
Bei Live-Auftritten kommt ihr in engen Kontakt mit den Fans. Was war das Bewegendste, das euch passiert ist?
Jemand fragte mich nach dem Auftritt, ob ich sie zu Tee machen könnte, ich fand das wirklich schön.

How many times have you had to listen to jokes about tea? And would you have a drink with Lucifer in an emergency?
Suprisingly not to many! Id defitnitely like to hear more. I have tea with Lucifer every day.
It would be nice if you could tell us a little bit about yourself. In Germany, you are not yet quite as well known.
Im Crucifix, I sing in the Canadian death grind band Satanic Tea Co. We also make tea out of people.
Who / What brought you to music?
I would say my older sister. Growing up i could only listen to Christian music, My sister would put on creed, and that was my introduction to anything heavier than worship music. I would get really into it, eventually found bands like norma jean, As I Lay Dying etc then the secular stuff; Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus etc.
And how did you decide on the respective instruments?
I used to play bass in a band when i was 11-14 but eventually our vocalist quit so i decided to try my hand at it. Now Id really like to try playing bass in a band again someday.
About the Album “A Celestial Beating”
Your new album will be released on 27.09.23. How excited are you?
I am extremely excited, its our first release as a collection of songs. Releasing singles is fun but having an album available for the first time is something Ive been looking forward to since we began.
“Dissection of Christ” delivers a gory alternative to a biblical tale. How do you feel about the institution of the church? (yes I know, you don’t talk about religion and politics – but you should)
I think they should pay taxes.
We say, “Karma takes care of it.” Do you think karma strikes, or is it better to be proactive?
I think Karma often does a good job of „taking care of it“ but I am also for proactive solutions.
Where do you get your ideas for the songs from and who takes over the organization?
A lof of the inspiration for A Celestial Beating came from my very religious upbringing and surroundings.
Where is Satanic Tea Co heading? What are your plans for the near future?
We are working on writing out debut album, and start playing shows in the US these are our main focus right now. And course harvesting as many body parts as i can to steep into tea.

You’ve already been able to work with some bands. Which ones impressed you the most and why?
Kittie and Cryptopsy were some of my favorites to work with. They were so easy going and fun to work out the blends with.
And who would you like to work with but haven’t yet?
Cannibal Corpse and Dying Fetus ill say are probably at the top of my bucket list
What do your friends / family say about your activities? Will you be supported and will you join the herd of “black family sheep”?
I would definitely say that I am the black sheep of my family, but I get a lot of support from my friends and family.
You also perform live and come into close contact with your fans. What was the most moving thing that happened to you?
Someone asked me after we played if i could make them into tea, i thought that was really nice.
